Trigger point can be identified by palpation and massage. It can be described as an irritable or sensitive point which causes discomfort. In this case, the body is often not able to speculate and the client may feel the discomfort elsewhere in the body – known as referred pain. Trigger point therapy or myofascial trigger point therapy, focuses on identification and release of trigger points.
Evaluation of trigger points can be easily done by massage. By pressing the trigger points, pain alleviating chemicals are produced in the area. These chemicals fight against the pain, and relax the muscle tissue. This technique involves applying pressure to the specific points to improve proper functioning.
There are numerous conditions that can be alleviated by using this therapy. Some of the conditions include, headache, joint pain, shoulder and back pain.
